This is a problem. An incomplete list, without order, which needs to be replicated three more times: once with the caps (of which the uniXXXX names are, obviously, different), one with .c2sc and once with .smcp (and those sets might be matching, but I can’t tell for sure).
One way FontLab could make my life easier is to automatically make classes of all glyphs that are known to be caps, lowercase, and classes for all appendices (like .smcp and .case). Also, wouldn’t it be great to batch rename all my .cap glyphs to the more logical .case? I think so.

Working on the Antikva some more. These caps are so lovely, I can’t believe nobody’s properly made this into a typeface before.

Current progress on the text typeface

All feedback is welcome. What do you think?

My text letter is changing a lot these days. Making big decisions, but the metrics are still the hardest part.

Traced Jan van Krimpen’s ex libris as practice. I recommend tracing at least one piece of lettering every week. Only one point is not on an extrema, but it still isn’t on a curve. Very satisfying.

The caps do a lot for the character of the typeface

Here’s what I did: I went from narrow, same-width-caps to more proportional caps. The result is a friendlier and more legible (in my opinion, naturellement) text.

Here is the before:

This is after. Not done yet, but the O, G, N, E and R show the intent.

It still retains the slightly squarish look that goes well with its narrowness, but the words just look better.

"The best part about designing your own type is using it yourself. The worst part about using your own type is constantly fixing it yourself."

Can’t remember who taught me this (might have been Frank Blokland), but it is the best method to optically centre a glyph. After this, prepare for weeks of harrowing metrics and kerning, but they’ll be less harrowing than with glyphs that are all over the place.

Lemonade Boredom. Because we need test words. Halfway through the caps, slowly because I have other, kinda more important things to do as well. Awww…
